Encrypt Passwords in a Database:

Let's assume that you have a password - protected website and each user's password is stored in an unencrypted form in the database. That means that if someone compromises your database they have access to the passwords for every user. This article explains how to encrypt your passwords with ASPRunner/PHPRunner so that not even the database administrator can determine a user's password.

MD5 encryption is a one-way hashing algorithm. Two important properties of the MD5 algorithm are that it is impossible to revert back an encrypted output to the initial, plain-text input, and that any given input always maps to the same encrypted value. This ensures that the passwords stored on the server cannot be deciphered by anyone. This way, even if an attacker gains reading permission to the user table, it will do him no good.

Highlight required form fields:

This article will show you how to let your form user know, all at once and before sending the information, about each required field that hasn't been filled in. Each required field will be highlighted in yellow while it is empty.

Search and sorting of lookup values:

You can put values from one table into another with a Lookup list. For example, if you had a shop, you might have one table for your products and another table for the categories that contain them. With a Lookup list of category names from the Categories table inserted into a field in the Products table, you could simply click on the correct Category from a menu instead of typing it from the keyboard.

Quite often you have to search and sort tables by lookup fields. This document will show you step-by-step, how to create lookup fields and what changes you need to make in your ASPRunner/PHPRunner project to ensure correct sorting and searching.

We will show you all steps you need to make on the example of the Northwind sample database which includes Products and Categories tables. If you do not have this database on your computer, you can download sql script that will create Northwind database on your MySQL server.

How to use calculated fields:

Frequently, in addition to a simple data output, it may be necessary to perform different kinds of data manipulation, such as summation, calculation of simple average, etc.

Let's discuss a few concrete cases by the example of "Cars" table in test MS Access database (examples.mdb) that comes with ASPRunner Pro. Depending on complexity of solving problem you need to make some changes on Events tab, on Edit SQL query tab or on the Visual Editor tab.

Write table data in uppercase only:

This document describes the steps you need to follow to add records to your database in uppercase only.
