Software Description

DocHaven is a library for your documents. DocHaven is run as an alternative to normal folders on your PC or file server. Your documents are permanently backed up and you bring take them out of the backup as you need them.

Instead of storing your documents in an ever-increasing number of folders on your hard drive, you store your documents in ‘Projects’, booking them out and checking them back in.

But its more than this – every time a Project is put away, it keeps the old versions automatically. So not only do you have the latest version, but if a mistake to the Project, you can always go back to a previous version.

Each time a person tries to take out a Project they are verified. They must be either the owner of the Project or a member of the group to which the Project belongs.

Finally, DocHaven compresses the Projects before storing them.

DocHaven is a cloud-based library for your documents. You run DocHaven as an alternative to the normal folders on your PC or file server. Your documents are permanently backed up. You take them out of the cloud as you need them then put them back into the cloud when you have finished with them.

You can store any kind of document in these ‘Projects’. Once a Project is back in the cloud it can be taken out by others in your group.

Every time a Project is put away, it keeps the last ten versions automatically. So not only do you have a permanent backup, but if you make a mistake with your Project file, you can always go back to a previous version on the Cloud.

Each time a person tries to take out a Project they are verified. They must be either the owner of the Project or a member of the group to which the Project belongs.

DocHaven meets the 3-2-1 rule for data Backups: Your files are in three places 1. your DocHaven folder 2. the cloud and 3. your cloud backup. At least three copies, at least two different media and at least one of the copies is offsite. Plus DocHaven also gives you extra assurance with multiple versions on the cloud and in your backups. Use the Backup window to create an on-site record of all your cloud projects and project meta-data.

Click the ‘Window’ menu and choose DocHaven (or key Command-D for Macintosh, Control-D for Windows & Linux) — this will bring the Documents window to the front.

Shift, Command and Control keys Pressing Shift or Command (Control in Windows) lets you select multiple documents or folders.

Arrow keys Press any of the four arrow keys. The up and down arrow keys will move your selection up and down through the list of projects and documents. The left and right arrows open and close the display of project folders.

Triangles Click the triangles to open or close the display of a folder.

Double-Click Double-click a document to launch it. Double-clicking a folder will display the contents of a folder within DocHaven.

Return key Highlight a folder and press Return — DocHaven should display that open folder in the operating system’s windows. Press the Return key while highlighting a file to launch it.

Right-Clicking Right-clicking (or control-clicking) any document lets you change a project’s name plus many other functions.

Resize Drag the re-size button in the bottom right to change the window size. Drag the window’s top toolbar to reposition the window. Drag the column borders to resize the columns. Click the Maximise button to zoom the window full screen. Click the Minimise button to shrink the window to the Dock.

Close a Window Choose Close Window from the File menu to close the uppermost window (or type Command-W or press the Escape key)

Quit Choose Quit (Exit in Windows & Linux) under the File menu to quit the application. You may get an warning to put away existing Projects first. If you choose to do so, it will put your Projects away then quit the application.

Logout Choose Logout to close all windows and return to the Login screen. This lets you log in as a different user.

The most common functions are available from any of the menus, menu Command-keys, the Tool Bar and contextual menus. Highlight the Project’s files or folders you want to action, then click the relevant Tool Bar button.

Clicking the clear button in the top right hand corner hides or reveals the Tool Bar. When a toolbar item is not available it shows as greyed.

You can create new Projects containing the identical set of documents based on previously defined template Projects. Click the New icon in the Tool Bar (or choose New... from the File menu, or type Command-N, Control-N on Windows & Linux).
