Skyfire has launched the first Flash video enabled mobile browser for Android-powered devices.

According to CEO Jeff Glueck, Skyfire 2.0 allows users to play millions of Flash videos around the web that are otherwise inaccessible on mobile smartphones.

Long-suffering smartphone maker Palm finally may have found a financial savior. Hewlett-Packard, the world’s second-largest IT systems provider, announced in a teleconference that it has agreed to purchase the struggling smartphone maker for $1.2 billion in cash on hand, or about $5.70 per share.

An HP spokesperson said Palm’s current chairman and CEO, Jon Rubinstein, is expected to remain with the company. HP also said that it expects the acquisition to close during its third fiscal quarter ending July 31.

Microsoft announced Tuesday it has finished the task of customizing Windows 7 to run on TVs, set-top boxes, digital signs, and other devices.

Among other things, the new software could allow Windows Media Center on new types of devices, Microsoft said. The operating system, dubbed Windows Embedded Standard 7, was shown Tuesday at the ESC Silicon Valley conference in San Jose, Calif.

With the release of Windows Embedded Standard 7, Microsoft has furthered its commitment to the integration of Windows 7 technologies in the specialized consumer and enterprise device markets,” said Kevin Dallas, general manager of Microsoft’s Windows Embedded unit.

Acting on a warrant issued Friday, California police seized personal computers belonging to the Gizmodo editor who broke the iPhone prototype story last week, a district attorney for San Mateo County confirmed today.

According to documents posted on Gizmodo, authorities from San Mateo County seized six computers belonging to Jason Chen, an editor of Gizmodo. Chen wrote the original story, published a week ago, that revealed details of a prototype of the next-generation iPhone, which the site admitted purchasing for $5,000.

Windows XP On iPad

First there was Windows 95 on an iPad. People cringed, but apparently they did not cringe enough, as someone else has managed to get Windows XP up and running on an iPad. Macheads, avert thy eyes!

The credit card numbers of at least four Blippy customers appear to have found their way onto the fast-moving lanes of the information super-highway.


According to VentureBeat, all numbers which appeared in a Google search appear to match Citibank-issued MasterCard numbers.

If Windows Phone 7 were to get one over Apple’s iPhone, a good way to do so would probably be via Microsoft’s Office productivity tools. While not everybody will want to work on Office documents on their mobile phones, the ability to do so would certainly be welcome, especially for business people who are always on the move.
