The return to glory of E3, the big video game show that ended Thursday, was accompanied by a trove of announcements that should keep the industry on track for another record-breaking year.
The annual show that downsized over the past two years to about 5,000 attendees grew to 40,000 people this year, closer to its heyday when more than 60,000 used to attend.
Jack Tretton, president of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said the bigger show was good for the industry and better reflected its growth and success.
“We suffered the last couple years when we downsized the event,” said Tretton. “It’s great that we’re back. This is more in line with the attention the industry deserves.”
Participating companies took advantage of the bigger stage to introduce new hardware, motion-control systems a la the Wii, additional accessories and new digital download strategies. And, of course, there were plenty of games.
